UPF: Cameroon’s New Executive Bureau Urged to Promote Professional Ethics
The new executive bureau for the Cameroon chapter of Union International de Presse Francophone has met with the Minister of Communication Rene Emmanuel Sadi.

Minister Rene Emmanuel Sadi congratulated members who gained position into the executive team of the prestigious union in their last election on June 18, 2021.

He reminded them of the arduous task ahead of them and insisted they work in close synergy to promote the falling ethical values of the journalistic profession in Cameroon.

The new president of the association, Evelyne Owona Essomba presented the six man delegation representing the executive bureau in the courtesy visit.

She went ahead to roll out some of the association’s action plan for the next three years.

Evelyne Owona Essomba said the strategic training of media practitioners will be optimal for the bureau in the next three years.

The President insisted that, in a world where labels like ‘fake news,’ ‘post-truth’ and ‘alternative facts’ threaten to undermine legitimate journalism in the public interest, professional training has arguably, never been more important for the credibility and integrity of its practitioners.

In this regard, she said the team has to work in promoting the positive use of digital platforms. Evelyne Owona added that social media has undeniably had a large impact on journalism. It has made the spread of news more rapid and to a larger audience, but at the expense of credibility and true news reporting.

She also declared the association’s interest of working with partners such as CAMASEJ, an association for English speaking journalists in Cameroon to strengthen collaborative works.
